You’ve registered for Convention, you’ve booked your transportation, and you might have already received invitations to special events. But the biggest question still lingers; what should you pack?
Grand Convention is a gathering of Thetas from every corner of the world, so you want to dress your best. We’ve put together a visual guide of attire that is appropriate for each day of Convention to help you fill your suitcase and hit the road to Phoenix.
On the opening day of Convention, you will reconnect with old friends and meet new ones for the first time. What better conversation starter than the institution where you first became a Theta? Attire for Thursday is “snappy casual” school spirit wear. Snappy casual is a step between casual and business casual. We would love to see everyone wear their school colors or a school spirit shirt on this day. Pair it with a skirt, dress capris, or pants to attend the district meetings, President’s Welcome, and more. No jeans, please.
Business casual is appropriate during the day (i.e., blouses, skirts, slacks, sweater sets, blazers). You may wear a suit, but it is not required, so please do not feel obligated to purchase one for this occasion. It will be heavily air-conditioned in the meeting rooms, so we recommend bringing a sweater. It is a good idea to pack some comfortable dress shoes for walking from your room to the meeting space. And, of course, don’t forget your Theta badge!
Please plan to pack two semi-formal outfits for the evening events on Friday, Theta Celebration: An Evening of Recognition, and Saturday, the Convention Banquet. You will have time prior to the meals to change out of your daytime attire into your eveningwear. These are both perfect events to wear your Theta badge with pride.
Of course, you can’t pack everything in your little travel bag! Consider leaving these items behind to free up some room in your suitcase for all the Theta swag you will receive at Convention.
Skirts that are a bit too short: A vast amount of sitting happens at Convention for long periods of time. In an effort to keep warm (and stay comfortable, no matter who you are seated next to!), ensure your skirts of appropriate length, especially when seated.
Sky-high heels: The Arizona Biltmore is very spread out, and you will be walking long distances between your room and the sessions and back again. To ensure your own comfort and safety, pack lower heels that make you feel confident to walk around in all day.
Maxi dresses: While casual maxi dresses are very trendy and would normally make sense in the Arizona climate, they are not considered business casual and should not be worn during Convention. If it does sneak into your suitcase, a maxi dress does make a great travel-day outfit for the airplane.
Lounge-wear spirit attire: While it is fun to show your school pride, it is important to refrain from wearing lounge attire at Grand Convention. Although Thursday is the most casual night of, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and oversized T-shirts are not appropriate for this event.
