Pass the Tissues!

Thetas on the early morning CASA walk
I’ve already cried three times today and it’s only 4pm. To tell you the truth, I was not alone.
The first tears came while watching a CASA video at breakfast. Michael Piraino, the CEO of CASA, showed us a moving video of their new initiative. Their aim is to raise awareness, volunteerism, and support of CASA.
We, as Thetas, can add our voice at: http://iamforthechild.org/
The next set of water works came when fellow collegian Ashley Cray, Beta Mu/Nevada, spoke about her personal experiences with CASA. I feel so blessed to have heard her story. It took a lot of courage I know every Theta walked away with more than just teary eyes. We walked away with a new appreciation of the importance of the CASA mission.
My third blubbery moment of the day was when Laurie McGregor Connor, Fraternity Government Relations Committee Chairman and longtime volunteer, received a special surprise and honor from her husband at the Theta Foundation luncheon. Theta Foundation President Kathleen Tonkel, Eta/Michigan, made a surprise announcement that Laurie’s husband and family established a Foundation scholarship in her name. Now he’s a keeper!
However, the day is not over and I better bring a tissue to our final banquet!
P.S. The KAT is out of the bag! Fraternity President Amy Kates just announced that Grand Convention 2014 is in Orlando!

Thetas on the dance floor!
Tonight was Fun Night where everyone dressed in cowgirl theme. I ate my fair share of mac and cheese and pulled barbeque pork before heading to the irresistible ice cream bar. No one can deny the fact that Theta keeps us well fed at Grand Convention! A large group of collegians and alumnae also headed out out to the terrace after dinner to take photos in front of the desert sunset.
Of course, I have to mention the Theta dance party! The DJ cranked up the music and Thetas flocked to the dance floor. I found the first song choice quite appropriate after hearing Dr. Zimpher speak today. The song was none other than Shania Twain’s “Man, I feel like a Woman”.
I’ll post a few photos from the entertaining evening!

Scholarship Luncheon 2012
I headed to the Scholarship Luncheon after our long and productive session of legislation in the morning. Dr. Nancy Zimpher, Alpha Gamma/Ohio State, spoke about women’s empowerment. In case you didn’t know, she holds a lengthy pedigree of accomplishments not the least of which is her Chancellorship at the State University of New York, which serves half a million students. Dr. Zimpher is the first woman to ever hold this position. Her message to us emphasized the need of more women in leadership roles. Dr. Zimpher also reminded us that humility is the greatest attribute of leadership. I could not agree more. As empowered women, we can truly enact positive change in our chapters, schools, and communities. However, Dr. Zimpher was sure to say that “you can’t just talk about what you want to do, you’ve got to do it”. As Thetas, we need to proudly declare our ‘Big Hairy Audacious Goals’ and then go for them! In other words, we’ve got to shoot for the Twin Stars. It’s great to be at Grand Convention where we not only celebrate our sisterhood but also our womanhood.
